Season Review- Premier league

This season's Premier league has been nothing short of amazing with drama from start to finish. After Manchester city ran away with the league last season every one was thinking who would challenge them. People were saying Manchester United and/or Liverpool. A massive £1.26 Billion was spent during the window. However Tottenham made some history by being the first team to sign no one in a summer window.

During the first couple of months Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea started to run away with it and left the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham chasing. However at the other end of the table 4-5 teams were in an early relegation fight. Huddersfield, favorites to go down were bottom. Fulham who spent upwards of £100 Million were in the bottom 3. I think that over the past couple of years the so called big 6 aka Man United, Man City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have been getting better and that has left a gap in quality. It also has created 2 mini leagues with the top 6 in one and the other 14 in another.

Then came Christmas and a notoriously tricky time in football. Not much had changed in the league positions, Liverpool went top and Newcastle put a run of a few wins together to clime there way out of the danger zone. Manchester United has sacked Jose Mourinho and had appointed fans favorite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who had the immediate impact at Old Trafford. Over the Christmas period came the highly anticipated match between the 2 title challengers Liverpool and Manchester city. City came out on top to close the gap to about 6 points.

The title race went back and forth with Manchester City catching up and overtaking Liverpool due to a few games in hand they had over there merseyside rivals but the gap was only 1 point. Over all in the season Liverpool were top for 139 days and Manchester City on top for 113 days. The first two relegation spots were confirmed in a matter of weeks as struggling Huddersfield and Fulham faced the drop to the Championship.

As we went into the final few weeks of the season a lot was yet to be decided like the winners, who would get into the champions league and who would join Fulham and Huddersfield in England 2nd tier. The teams battling it out were Cardiff and Brighton. Brighton lost 3 or 4 games in a row which put them a few points of the relegation places. However as games began to ran out Cardiff lost to Crystal Palace which confirmed the drop. The title race ran down to the last day with Liverpool against Wolves and Man City making the long trip down to Brighton. After some early drama city came out on top and became the first team since Man United a few years ago to win back to back league titles. Liverpool finished with the 3rd highest points tally in the history of the premier league with 97 points but only finished 2nd. The Premier League kept its drama to the very last minutes.
