Fixture reaction

As the 2019-20 fixtures are released I wanted to give my opinion on them. We start of with a repeat of the play off semi final with a home game with Mansfield. This is a tricky game for both teams. We started last season with an away trip to Mansfield. We lost 3-0 on that day but got the better of them in the play offs.

August looks like a tough month for us with us also facing the other losing play off semi finalists Forest Green Rovers, we also face 2 of the 4 relegated teams as we welcome Plymouth and we travel to Walsall.

We are away to Exeter on Boxing day. We are against Leyton Orient on December 29th which will be a sad game due to the sudden passing former manager Justin Edinburgh. We are home on new years day to Cheltenham town. On the last day of hopefully another great season we are at home to Northampton.

I hope that this is a promotion season. If we start well and put a run of about 7-10 wins together then it might be another very good season for us. This is my opinion. Let me know what you think down in the comments. Also don't forget to follow me on twitter.

Season Review- Premier league

This season's Premier league has been nothing short of amazing with drama from start to finish. After Manchester city ran away with the league last season every one was thinking who would challenge them. People were saying Manchester United and/or Liverpool. A massive £1.26 Billion was spent during the window. However Tottenham made some history by being the first team to sign no one in a summer window.

During the first couple of months Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea started to run away with it and left the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham chasing. However at the other end of the table 4-5 teams were in an early relegation fight. Huddersfield, favorites to go down were bottom. Fulham who spent upwards of £100 Million were in the bottom 3. I think that over the past couple of years the so called big 6 aka Man United, Man City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have been getting better and that has left a gap in quality. It also has created 2 mini leagues with the top 6 in one and the other 14 in another.

Then came Christmas and a notoriously tricky time in football. Not much had changed in the league positions, Liverpool went top and Newcastle put a run of a few wins together to clime there way out of the danger zone. Manchester United has sacked Jose Mourinho and had appointed fans favorite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who had the immediate impact at Old Trafford. Over the Christmas period came the highly anticipated match between the 2 title challengers Liverpool and Manchester city. City came out on top to close the gap to about 6 points.

The title race went back and forth with Manchester City catching up and overtaking Liverpool due to a few games in hand they had over there merseyside rivals but the gap was only 1 point. Over all in the season Liverpool were top for 139 days and Manchester City on top for 113 days. The first two relegation spots were confirmed in a matter of weeks as struggling Huddersfield and Fulham faced the drop to the Championship.

As we went into the final few weeks of the season a lot was yet to be decided like the winners, who would get into the champions league and who would join Fulham and Huddersfield in England 2nd tier. The teams battling it out were Cardiff and Brighton. Brighton lost 3 or 4 games in a row which put them a few points of the relegation places. However as games began to ran out Cardiff lost to Crystal Palace which confirmed the drop. The title race ran down to the last day with Liverpool against Wolves and Man City making the long trip down to Brighton. After some early drama city came out on top and became the first team since Man United a few years ago to win back to back league titles. Liverpool finished with the 3rd highest points tally in the history of the premier league with 97 points but only finished 2nd. The Premier League kept its drama to the very last minutes.

Transfer preview-Newport county

As the transfer window opens I want to give my opinion on what might happen over the summer at the club.
So far we have signed 5 players. Tom king, Kyle Howkins, Lazar Stojsavljevic, Marvel Ekpiteta and most recently Daniel Leadbitter. I personally think that some of these signings are replacing players who have left for example Regan Poole and Dan butler and players who are out of contract for example Joe day and Micky Demetriou. Tom king is an ideal replacement for Joe day who is rumored to be going to Cardiff city in the championship. Then other name I mentioned was Micky Demetriou. I haven't heard any rumors about him leaving but I believe that he is too good for us as a league 2 club. If we had won at wembley then I think that the players who are out of contract e.g  Dan butler, Joe day and Micky demetriou would have stayed. Daniel Leadbitter I think will play right wing back which will allow Robbie Willmott to play in central midfield.
In my opinion I think we need to sign a left back/wing back to replace Dan butler, 1 or 2 new midfielders because we were poor in midfield a lot of the time last season but when Josh Sheehan played towards the end of the season we were better. Also I think we need a winger. This will allow us to play another way if things aren't going our way in the game. If we can make 1 or 2 good loan signings like in the past Antoine Semenyo and Ben White then this will boost our promotion bid for next season.

This is what I think will happen over the summer. Let me know what you think in the comments. Don't forget to follow me on twitter.

Season Review 2018-19

This season has been a fantastic one for the county in all competitions especially in the league and Fa cup. With a trip to wembley, the 4th one in the past 7 seasons in a play off final and a home tie against the back to back champions of England.

We started the campaign with a disappointing away trip to Mansfield losing 3-0 at the One call stadium. We then went on a run of 7 wins out of 8 with the only defeat coming in the 2nd round of the Carabao cup Against Oxford at home. After a 1-0 away loss to Swindon came the lowest part of the season in my opinion with the 0-6 thrashing by yeovil who have now been relegated but we didn't let that bother us as we then went on another unbeaten run of 6 games which saw us clime into the automatic promotion places.

A few weeks later our attentions turned to the Fa cup and an away trip to the met police. It was a real banana skin for the county but we managed to come through with a 2-0 win. Then with a few mixed results including a draw with welsh rivals wrexham in the 2nd round of the Fa cup and a penalty shootout defeat in the second round of the efl trophy to cheltenham came the 4-0 thrashing at home in the replay against Wrexham. Our task was made easier after the visitors had a man sent off for a horrible tackle on Mickey Demetriou. our form in the league had been poor with 6 games with out a win the only win we had in a month and a half of football was the game in the fa cup. But the poor form was worth it as we welcomed the former premier league champions Leicester city to Rodney Parade.

With what we did last season in the Fa cup in mind we took on 2015-16 champions of England with the eyes of the country watching we made the perfect start with Jamille Matt heading home. We then put on a defensive masterclass until late on as Rachid Ghezzal equalized but a late penalty from Padraig Amond sent us through. Check out my Middlesbrough review to find out my thoughts on the game. As a result of the Fa cup run we had slumped to 15th in the League. Then we took on current Premier league champions Manchester City in the Fa cup 5th round there was a lot of optimism at Rodney Parade ahead of the clash. However after a superb performance it wasn't enough to beat the Champions which seen our Fa cup run end.
Our attention then turned back to the league with a play off spot still available only if we won our games in hand. With only 3 defeats in 2 and a months of football seen us dramatically get into the play offs with 1-1 draw with Morcambe. However the play offs ended with heartbreak as we lost 1-0 to Tranmere at wembley.

It has been an amazing season for the county and hopefully the start of something special.
